You've probably noticed:

Our team loves festivals - and bass loving websites have become a catalyst for the scene's growth.

Music lovers now have more technology and communication power on hand than ever before.

The ability to share information and opinions about events has put the music blog teams at the forefront of the exchange.

So here's what we did:


We challenged ourselves to pick the 7 best electronic music blogs for bass heads and came up with the following list.

There are a lot of great websites out there, so we tried to narrow them down. We looked at several factors including awards, traffic and quality of content.

The 7 Best Electronic Music Blogs:

  1. Pitchfork - www.Pitchfork.com

Based in Chicago, Pitchfork is hands-down one of the best electronic music websites. It's dedicated to music articles, journalism, news, and album reviews. Pitchfork was discovered in 1995 by Ryan Schreiber, when he was working at a record store; the magazine gained a reputation for its broad focus on independent music but has since expanded the variety of coverage in both popular and indie music artists.

The site is focused on upcoming music and artists, but Pitchfork editors also have box sets and revised reissued albums. The site has also published best electronic music starting from 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and the best songs of the 1960s and also features the best albums and songs of each year. It is - without a doubt - one of the top electronic music blogs around.

  1. Consequence of Sound - www.ConsequenceOfSound.net

The Consequence of Sound (COS) is an electronic music website based in Chicago that offers editorials, reviews of music, news, and movies. The website also provides Festival outlook, which functions as an online database for news and rumors about music festivals throughout the world.

The website was founded by Alex Young in September 2007. He now plays the role of publisher and CEO with a combined workforce of more than 50 writers, photographers, graphics designers and editors.

Consequence of Sound’s end result turned out to be one of the best music festival and electronic music blogs listed by Technorati music. In 2010, About.com ranked it as one of the best music blogs of the year.

One of the most popular sections of the site features updates about rumors and music festivals.

In February 2012, the site launched a section of the long form writing, Aux.Out. In March 2012, the site launched its mobile application for the first time at the South by Southwest.

  1. Tiny Mix Tapes - www.TinyMixTapes.com

Tiny Mix Tapes (TMTtapes) is an online film and music webzine that focuses mainly on music news and new music. Their opinions come to life in their subversive news, politics and their mixtape generator.

Tiny Mix Tapes provides news, music reviews, movie reviews, and columns. The "DeLorean" section revisits music from the past that may have been overlooked. It discusses albums that the writer believes are "classical" or influential or important due to any other reason.

There is also a section that features interviews, articles, reviews of the music festival and a "live blog" in which writers review shows of live music. In 2009, Tiny Mix Tapes created a column section.

Tiny Mix Tapes also started reviewing movies in 2008 and now has a section dedicated to the movie. This section also includes articles on filmmakers and numerous other issues within the film industry.

Resident Advisor is a community platform and digital music magazine that focuses on raising awareness of electronic music producers and festivals around the world. It was established in 2001. The editorial team of the website provides news, music events and opinions with global reach. They also cover things like national events and ticket procurement, club directories, artist profiles, DJ charts, and their own podcast.

Resident Advisor has its head office in London, with additional offices in Tokyo, Berlin, Los Angeles, and Sydney. Their website won the People's Voice award in the 12th Annual Webby 2010.

  1. Stereogum - www.StereoGum.com

Stereogum is a regular online publication that concentrates on music news, irreverent commentary and songs releases. Spinmedia now owns the site founded in January 2002 by Scott Lapatine.

Stereogum was among the first MP3 blogs and has won several prizes and awards, including Blender’s Powergeek 25, the Plug’s award for the best music blog, and Entertainment Weekly’s Best Music Website award. The site was named Official Honoree of the Webby Awards in the music category and won the award Omma Website Excellence in the category, Music Entertainment. Stereogum won The Village Voice Music Blog of the Year in 2011.

This is one of the most popular and bass-head flavored blogs around. Although they are flooded with work all the time due to their large network (sometimes take up to two weeks to respond) they remain a solid bet for producers and upcoming artists. It is free and competitive to feature your music at EDM.com.

Keep in mind that they only accept the best of the best and your work has to stand out from the hundreds of submissions they receive daily. EDM.com is also known for their huge network, SoundCloud, with features that generate a good 30,000 plays within a week.

If you think you have what it takes, this can be the best place to start your journey.

  1. Drowned in Sound - www.DrownedInSound.com

Drowned in Sound (DIS) began as a fanzine email in 1998 named “The Last Resort", but was relaunched as Drowned in Sound by Sean Adams who was the founder in 2000.

The independent writing team is currently spread over four continents - North America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. The site is mainly based on the contributions of outstanding writers and has an integration to allow discussion and comments in interviews, news and comment forum.

It also includes a database of underground artists and bands, as well as details on most live music venues (large and small) in the UK. The site has more than 60,000 registered members and receives about 470,000 unique visitors per month.

In 2006, they launched a podcast named Radio Drowned in Sound. In November 2007, this was associated with the download site advertising RCRDLBL.com to launch a video and blog audio, entitled "Drownload".

They have been involved in many music festivals including Summer Sundae Festival since 2008, and in 2010 hosted celebrations for its 10th anniversary with a lineup led by The Futureheads and Scared Rabbit.

How to Stay Connected to the Music Scene in a Pandemic

The best electronic music around the world is now being live-streamed from bedrooms in different cities in the United States of America.

Yes, our favorite DJs are now more accessible than ever.

No, we still can't go to a festival and dance to their music.

But we used to. And we will be able to get back out there soon enough.

It's important to remember that.

For now, let's enjoy the lovely livestreams and living room raves. But get ready for festival season to kick off and come back bigger and better than ever.

I'm personally looking forward to following my ears to epic events when this all blows over.

As a matter of fact, there will once again be many places where you could go and hear the best electronic music available. Played from a stage. With concert-quality speakers.

Can you imagine?

Our favorite clubs and venues will be waiting for dancers (and drinkers) to attend and listen to the freshest electronic music being played by different DJs of this generation. Straight from their DJ decks. Without ever going up on the line.

Some say the best electronic music comes from experienced DJs who know how to entertain his or her crowd without the need for vocals. DJs are super important for live mixing, but music producers also play a major role in creating the actual tracks. 

There have been tons of DJs who have made a name for themselves in the past decade. DJs such as Tiesto are still able to maintain their fan base even with the arrival of new trends in electronic music festivals. In the spirit of blogging, I would like to share with you some information about the best electronic music festivals that are scheduled to be held in the next year or so.

First off, I would like to introduce you to Electric Forest Festival. This electronic music festival takes place in Maryland each spring. The date for this two-day event is set to be held during the middle of March. If you are looking for a new and unique experience, you should definitely check out this event. In case you are planning to attend this two-day event, you should book your tickets early to avoid getting caught with the late bookings.

Another upcoming electronic music festival scheduled to be held in 2021 is Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit. It's currently scheduled for May 29, 2021 through May 31, 2021.

Lastly, here are three more festivals that you should check out.

EDC Las Vegas is set to light up the sky on May 21, 22, and 23.  Just like with Electric Forest Festival, you should definitely try to book tickets in advance to secure a spot at this one of the best events of the year. 

Ultra Music Festival was scheduled for March 2021 but has been postponed. This event goes down every year in Miami Florida and features a sun-soaked outdoor venue.

Of course Tomorrowland should make our short list of favorite electronic festivals. This Belgium super festival features some of the most talented musicians and performers in the world. 

If you want to stay connected to the scene in your home town, find a Facebook event page for your favorite local DJ. Usually, these types of pages will allow you to get in touch with your friends and followers. Keep an eye on that feed to see the latest posts about the DJ, track list, artist's profile, and all sorts of other interesting details about the artist. If you are a techno lover, you'll also want to check out their latest posts about upcoming events so you can go give 'em a listen on the dance floor.
